Nobody likes spider veins. They’re unsightly and unnatural in appearance, and they get in the way of us feeling our best — especially in the warmer leg-baring months. When considering treatment for spider veins, one of the primary questions to ask is, “What does spider vein treatment cost?”

Unlike some services at other wellness centers or doctor’s offices, Medicus is proud to offer a flat time-based rate. You pay $240 for every 15 minutes of treatment for every session, every time. Let’s go over the components that will impact the total time — and therefore the cost — of your individual spider vein treatment plan.

How do our rates compare to other centers? In 2019, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported the average cost of professional spider vein removal. The typical reported cost of sclerotherapy treatment is $343. For laser treatment of spider veins, the reported cost is $443. These figures are estimates for a single treatment or appointment for spider vein removal.

What Impacts the Cost of Spider Vein Treatment?

A one-size-fits-all pricing model for spider vein removal would do each of our clients a disservice. We ensure that you pay for the services you directly receive and nothing additional. The cost of your individual treatment depends on:

  • If you need a combination of treatment options
  • The number of veins that require treatment
  • The severity of your spider veins
  • Where your spider veins are located
  • Which treatment option is the best

Is Spider Vein Treatment Covered by Insurance?

No, spider vein treatment is not covered by insurance. It’s considered a cosmetic and voluntary procedure and paid out of pocket. This makes it all the more important to work with a treatment center you can trust. We let you know upfront about the different elements of the spider vein removal process so that you’ll never be taken by surprise when you receive a bill.

What Are the Different Spider Vein Removal Techniques?

When moving forward with spider vein treatment, the timing and amount of procedures will directly affect your total cost. Medicus is proud to offer three different spider vein removal techniques to achieve the most optimal result. Each treatment costs $240 per 15 minutes.

Sclerotherapy

‌Sclerotherapy is consistently the top choice of treatment for spider vein removal. It’s a proven and time-tested procedure since the 1920s in which a solution is injected into each vein. At Medicus, we exclusively use the trusted and FDA-approved polidocanol solution injection called Asclera®. The solution closes off the vein and reroutes blood to healthier veins.

VeinWave

‌Medicus also offers an FDA-approved procedure using microwave technology called VeinWave. VeinWave uses a device on the surface of the skin to remove the smaller and difficult to treat spider veins that are usually in the facial or ankle area.

Like sclerotherapy, it is minimally invasive and uses a fine needle inserted into the top layers of the skin. The targeted microwave energy is directed only to the spider vein itself, not surrounding tissues. It’s typically painless and achieves almost immediate results.

Costs for VeinWave treatment can range between $400 and $800 per session at other treatment centers.

Cutaneous Laser Treatments

Cutaneous laser treatment is another clinically proven spider vein removal method. In this method, laser treatment is used to gently heat the problematic vein to make the blood coagulate. The blood coagulation causes the vein to break down. Once broken down, the treated vessels get reabsorbed into the body and the targeted veins disappear.

As we talked about, the 2019 American Academy of Plastic Surgeons estimates that the average cost for one spider vein laser treatment is $450 at other locations.

What Else Can Affect the Cost of Treating Spider Veins?

Since each person’s spider veins respond differently to different therapies, the number of therapy sessions and therapy methods will affect your total cost.

When You Come in for an Initial Consultation or Physical Exam

Your no-obligation consultation is complimentary at Medicus, so you don’t need to be concerned with an upfront appointment cost. Note that other treatment centers may not offer this, so it should be considered when estimating your total cost.

When There’s a Need for Multiple Treatment Sessions

‌With the sclerotherapy process, an ultra-fine needle is meticulously inserted into each affected spider vein. While the process itself is quick, it is very unlikely to target all spider veins in one treatment session.

We always recommend between three and five sclerotherapy sessions to achieve the desired result with at least two weeks between each session. With our time-based fee structure, the total treatment cost varies from person to person.

When a Combination of Treatment Methods Is Required

Sclerotherapy is the tried and true method of choice for most clients. Our trusted and experienced staff will implement sclerotherapy in the majority of visits.‌ However, in some cases, the other two methods — VeinWave and laser treatment — will be used in conjunction with sclerotherapy.

Spider veins can be stubborn and may not always fully respond to sclerotherapy. In cases like the latter, we may recommend using VeinWave or laser treatment as a secondary method. With our standard fee structure of $240 for every 15 minutes of any treatment, there won’t be an additional charge for needing a combination of treatment methods. We use whichever treatment makes it possible for you to get the best result.
