What is EVLA?
EndoVenous Laser Ablation uses laser energy
delivered in a thin fiber optic probe to treat the
underlying cause of the varicose veins. There is minimal
to no pain and no scarring.
During the 45-minute procedure,
the area of the leg affected is locally anesthetized,
and under ultrasound guidance, a thin laser fiber is
inserted into the abnormal vein, delivering laser
energy in short pulses.
The fiber optic probe is then withdrawn from the vein.
There is almost no discomfort during the procedure,
and you will return tonormal activity the next day.

If you are not a candidate for EVLA, Dr.
Tidwell also offers alternative procedures
in the Medicus Veincare office:
Sclerotherapy
In this rather simple procedure,
veins are injected with a sclerosing
solution, which causes them to collapse and
fade from view. The procedure may also remedy
the bothersome symptoms associated with spider veins,
including aching, burning, swelling and night cramps.
If neccessary, an ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy
procedure is available.
Ambulatory Phlebectomy
With this treatment,
the varicose veins are completely
removed from the leg. This procedure
does not affect the circulation of blood
in the leg because veins deeper in the leg
take care of the larger volumes of blood.
The varicose veins removed through a tiny
incision are superficial or surface veins,
and collect blood only from the skin. This procedure
requires only local anesthesia.
Cutaneous Laser Treatment
The laser is applied to the skin surface,
removing the vein from sight. This is a clinically
proven, effective treatment of spider veins,
telangiectasias and retricular veins alone or
in conjunction with sclerotherapy.
VeinWave™
This innovative procedure utilizes microwave energy.
The device is applied to the skin surface to remove
spider veins in areas that are otherwise difficult
to treat like the face and ankles. Patients typically
experience less discomfort with this procedure than
with traditional sclerotherapy or cutaneous laser
therapy. Typically spider veins are eliminated in
one to two treatments.
